National Prayer Day, May 7, 2026
To these good Christians all manner of horror is justified because they have god on their side. They will be part of a propaganda wave that will be building towards the Fourth of July.
On Thursday, May 7, thousands of people gathered on the Capitol mall to celebrate National Prayer Day. That event gave a glmpse of a comng campaign which we must not ignore.
Secretary of War (a title that is more appropriate than his legal title, “secretary of defense”) spoke. “Let us pray for our nation on bended knee and let us ask our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, as Washington did on that momentous day, so help us God,” he said. Gary Hamrick, a pastor from Virginia, told the crowd “Today, friends, we are in a spiritual war,” he continued. “This is a battle in our day between good and evil, between right and wrong, between truth and lies, between light and darkness.”

The out and proud white nationalist Representative Mary Miller was welcome at National Prayer Day.
US Representative Mary Miller from Illinois also commented. “I invite every American to pray,” she said. “Thank the Lord for His faithfulness to our nation, lift up our leaders in prayer, and ask for His wisdom to continue to guide us forward.” In the past, Miller has called the ending of abortion rights “a victory for white life” and on another occasion praised Hitler. In other words, she is a neo Nazi. She fit right in on May 7.
The NY Times reported “Several attendees said that the last time they had been in Washington was to participate in the election protest on Jan. 6, 2021, that turned into an attack on the Capitol building.
“‘To be back here for this is a redemption,’ said Lynna Zapata, a pastor in West Texas, who added that she was not among those who breached the building. ‘And it’s us seeing the fruit of what we prayed for five years ago.’
“‘Events like this let us see that we’re not alone,’ said Teresa Johnson-Hernandez, who is running for the Texas Houses of Representatives. What this means is that faced with possibly major electoral defeats, the Christian fascist community will use such events to “prove” to themselves that the elections were stolen. This will further be justified by the thinking expressed by Gary Hamrick, a Virginia preacher, who said “This is a battle in our day between good and evil, between right and wrong, between truth and lies, between light and darkness.” In other words, with god on your side, anything is justified.

A video of Trump reading from the bible was worshipped at National Prayer Day.
The National Prayer Day event was a kickoff for a rolling propaganda campaign in the run-up to the July 4 celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. That celebration, in turn, is part of the strengthening of the Trump cult, AKA the Republican Party, which is determined to remain in power regardless of any election result. In order to do so, it must maintain absolute fealty. No disobedience is allowed, because once it starts, then the hold the cult leader has on his base can start to crumble. Recent election results show that Trump’s cult-like hold over his party remains intact.
The foremost example of this was the primary defeat of Bill Cassidy, incumbent Republican US senator from Louisiana. Although Cassidy has served Trump loyally ever since Trump returned to office, Cassidy made the unforgivable mistake of voting to convict Trump after January 6. The result was that Trump campaigned against him and Cassidy couldn’t even get 25% of Republican primary votes. The primaries in Indiana were also indicative. There, seven Republican state representatives had defied Trump and voted against Trump redistricting/gerrymandering. Trump organized primary challenges and five of them were defeated.

The polls show that the MAGA/Republican cult is in a minority. This will drive them towards even greater and more violent extremes.
National polls are also indicative. They show the Republicans are in a clear minority. For example, a Times/Sienna poll shows Trump at a record low 37% approval rating. But his approval among Republicans is at 83%!
Trump and the Republican cult are well aware that they are in the minority. They plan to overcome this with a new and even more widespread January 6 type event. That was what the National Prayer Day event was part of – preparing the base for it. As part of that campaign, they have made January 6 more acceptable to their voter base. A CBS report shows that overall, 80% of people in the US “disapprove” of January 6, but among Republican voters the disapproval rating has dropped from 79% in 2021 to 70% today. Those who “strongly disapprove” dropped from 51% down to 30% today, while those who outright approve went from 20% to 30% – an actual increase. There are between 36-39 million registered Republicans today. That means that about 10 million people support a new January 6!
It is not just the base. In the run-up to the 2024 election, a layer of the capitalist class supported Trump because they knew he’d boost their profits. They thought they could keep his more extreme tendencies under control. However, within this layer was another wing, centered mainly around some of the Silicon Valley venture capitalists, who actually support his politics. Although they don’t dominate the entire class, that wing has now become increasingly influential within the capitalist class as a whole. The editorial board of the Wall St. Journal is one of the best indicators. In the past, they were harshly critical of Trump’s more bonehead moves, and even more so over Trump’s undermining the power of US capitalism internationally. Recently they seem to have muted their criticism. For example, Trump recently visited one of his heroes, Xi, in China. He went there almost as a supplicant. Among other things, there is every indication that he discussed US military aid to Taiwan. Discussing that with the Chinese government is expressly prohibited by U.S. law. And what was the response of the Wall St. Journal editorial board? In an editorial entitled The-Good-News-Is-No-News Summit they wrote “President Trump’s Beijing parley with Chinese leader Xi Jinping this week was a success. It didn’t achieve much, but it also didn’t appear to give away anything notable to the wily dictator.” In the past, they would have been beside themselves with rage that the president did not clearly stand up to his rival and that he evidently violated US law by discussing US aid to Taiwan with Xi. Not this time.
Previously, it was just a small band of Silicon Valley venture capitalists who had been able to entirely tear down an entire industry – the information and entertainment industry – and rebuild it as they wanted. They took this to mean they could do the same to US society as a whole, and the authoritarianism that was and remains inherent in Trumpism and MAGA fit their views perfectly. Other capitalists just supported Trump because they knew he’d boost their profits, but they weren’t really on board. Then, after Trump resumed power, one after another allowed themselvs to be bullied by him in order to keep those added profits. Now, however, what seems to be happening is that they realize the enormous disruption that AI will bring, and they are onboard with turning power over to this demented authoritarian as the only alternative to possible mass protests or a Democratic Party that is under pressure from the Zohran Mamdani’s and Graham Platner’s.
As for the Democrats as a whole, at best they’ll be driving with one foot on the brake. Yes, they’ll be attacking Trump for his more obvious betrayals of US capitalist interest as well as for his corruption and repression. On the other hand, they’ll be adding to all the hoopla in the run-up to July 4, thereby adding to the patriotic fervor that the Trump cult will use.

National Prayer Day, May 7
These good Christians are little different from the settlers and other fascists in Israel. To them, all manner of horror is justified because they have god on their side.
