In California the prisoner hunger strike goes on into its second month. They are striking to protest the psychological torture of extended solitary confinement. But lying behind that issue is the issue of mass incarceration, and the attitudes that are created to make this politically possible. Part of those attitudes is the freeing of the police to do whatever they wish, including stealing, framing people up, and brutalizing them. This article documents that and puts a human face on it.
