Trump-Putin: The Mutual Support Deal Between Two War Criminals in Jeopardy!

Trump-Putin: The Mutual Support Deal Between Two War Criminals in Jeopardy!

By Yorgos Mitralias

On September 1, when we reported on a likely quid pro quo deal between Trump and Putin, involving Putin’s closest advisor, Kirill Dmitriev, we could not have imagined that official confirmation of this deal would come just a month and a half later—and from the mouth of that very same… Kirill Dmitriev! But first, here is what we wrote on September 1: “we do know that last March, the international media reported on a revelation by Politico that Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev had proposed the following deal to U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during their meeting in Miami: that “ Moscow proposed a quid pro quo to the U.S. under which the Kremlin would stop sharing intelligence information with Iran, such as the precise coordinates of U.S. military assets in the Middle East, if Washington ceased supplying Ukraine with intel about Russia“. (1)

Obviously, Kirill Dmitriev is now entirely justified in rejoicing, describing the current Trump-Putin deal as “iconic and historic,” since it goes far beyond the hypothetical deal he himself suggested last March. In fact, Trump is not limiting himself to “stopping providing Ukraine with intelligence on Russia,” but is now cutting off all aid to Ukraine. And if that weren’t enough, he is threatening Ukraine with harsh sanctions if it does not “immediately” stop defending itself by bombing Russian refineries, and is even declaring war on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by demanding hisimmediate removal from office! So Mr. Dmitriev—and through him, his boss, Mr. Putin— can gloat by declaring that “President Trump joins the many who believe that Ukraine needs leadership truly committed to peace, not Zelensky’s warmongering policies.”

So here we are at the beginning of the implementation of this give-and-take deal, which we discussed on September 1, in our article “When the Need to Extricate Themselves From Their Quagmires Grips Trump and Putin by the Throat”. In reality, the second part of this deal—that is, Putin’s abandonment of Iran—can still wait. Why? Because Trump is under immense pressure to extricate himself—if possible, immediately—from his Iranian quagmire, far more so than Putin is from his Ukrainian quagmire. So it comes as no surprise that, for now, Putin is limiting himself to “conveying Tehran’s position to Donald Trump regarding a possible end to the war.”Moreover, even the much-celebrated Trump-Putin agreement on oil concerns only a practically laughable amount of diesel—certainly far too little to justify Trump’s jubilation as he announced it, preferring to speak of “tons” rather than “barrels” of oil in order to inflate the quantity and, by extension, its significance.

So, why all the fuss? The answer is glaringly obvious: because this whole affair has only one objective—to help .Trump three weeks before the midterm elections, which are shaping up to be very difficult, if not catastrophic, for him. Thus, this oil deal actually masks a far more significant event: the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Putin’s Russia! This means that far more than Trump, the main beneficiary of the Trump-Putin deal is… Putin and his regime. Much to the great misfortune of the Ukrainians, who are being bombed and decimated as never before. But also, much to the great misfortune of Russian citizens, who will continue to be oppressed and repressed by an obscurantist and barbaric regime that denies them the most basic democratic rights and freedoms…

But why this “mad love” that Trump has for Putin, the reader might ask, bewildered by the avalanche of events that would have defied even the wildest imagination just two or three years ago. According to our “analysts” and other “specialists” on Russia and international politics, the explanation is simple: “Putin’s fascination with Trump .” No problem—that fascination is obvious. However, the same fascination is exerted on Trump by the Argentine Millei, the Hungarian Orban, the Brazilian Bolsonaro, the Egyptian Sisi, Latin American dictators, the Indian Modi, the British Farage, and the leaders of Germany’s AfD, and many others of the same ilk. And above all, by the Israeli Netanyahu!

So, the question becomes clearer and is phrased differently: what links all these figures who fascinate Trump? What is their common denominator? The answer is obvious and allows us to understand our current world and the struggles that lie ahead much better: These figures are all dictators—or rather, fascists determined to destroy what remains of our freedoms. And the underlying reason why Trump and Putin are helping each other by any means necessary is that they are both leading figures of this “Brown International,” which has been proving itself more and more before our very eyes, day after day, in recent years!

So, as we await the results of the U.S. midterm elections—and even more so, the crucial events in the aftermath of those elections—we’ll content ourselves, for now, with concluding with the words that closed our September 1 article: “ But beware: even if such a “deal” comes to fruition, its implementation will be more than problematic. We can be certain that, despite its exhaustion after more than four years of a horrific and ferocious war, the Ukrainian people—who have already suffered and bled so much—will do everything in their power to render it ineffective…” ”
