Events here in MAGA land hold lessons for workers of all lands (including Ukraine and Syria).

Wreckage of American Airlines crash. It symbolizes what may become the wreckage of democracy in the U.S.A.
As I write this, the news here in the United States is still filled with discussions about the devastating plane accident over Washington DC. There, a helicopter and a commercial airplane collided killing all 70 passengers aboard the two aircraft. Preliminary evidence seems to indicate that a factor in this accident is the understaffing of the air traffic controllers. Another possible factor is the fact that this particular airport is just too busy for what it was designed for. Despite this, Trump is using this disaster to carry out attacks on measures that are in actuality attempts to overcome historic discrimination against Black people, other people of color, women, and other oppressed groups.
I mentioned this in relation to two conversations I recently had with a friend of mine in Ukraine. Just a few weeks ago, I was commenting to that friend and a few others on what we could expect from the then incoming Trump administration. Then just a few days ago, that friend of mine told me that they had thought that I had been exaggerating, that I was being unduly alarmist about Trump. That friend doesn’t think so any longer.
Again to review:
- Trump has released from prison about 1500 violent, fascist organizers, the same ones who sought to violently overturn the result of the 2020 election. I think it is most likely that at least some of those organizers will be getting financial backing from Elon Musk, who is reputedly the world‘s richest man.
- Trump has moved to take direct personal control over the department of justice and is trying to appoint somebody who is nothing but a lackey of his, cash Patel, to head the FBI.
- Trump has fired or is planning to fire all Department of Justice and FBI employees involved in investigating his criminal past.
- Trump has suspended payment to tens of thousands of government employees and employees of government contractors at home and abroad.
- Trump is trying to appoint Tulsi Gabbard as director of national security. Gabbard has shown herself to be really a direct pipeline to Putin, and in the past also to Assaad.
- Maybe the most significant of Trump‘s nominees in one sense is RFK jr. to head

RFK jr. under pressure in his congressional hearing. The man is completely unstable.
the department of health and human services. RFK‘s history of insane health theories, as well as his own psychological instability, show that this appointment is against the interest of the US capitalist class as a whole. After all, capitalism needs a general population that is free of epidemic disease diseases like measles. In other words, not even the capitalists are controlling Trump!
- Trump Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, and Elon Musk are seriously talking about sending U.S. Special Forces (elite military forces) into Mexico, supposedly to attack the drug cartels there, but this must be seen in the context of his aspiration to conyrol everything from Panama to Canada to Greenland.
- In one of the most alarming recent developments, it is now reported that Elon

Elon Musk giving Nazi salute. Trump had no objection.
Musk is trying to gain control over the US government computer system that is responsible for all government payments. This would mean the direct personal control over, possibly the most important aspect of any federal government by the worlds richest man. He will use this for his own personal enrichment – in other words one of the greatest corruption schemes ever. Ukrainians will be familiar with Igor Kolomoisky’s financial crimes – the greatest pyramid swindle in history – in their country. That won’t even be a drop in the bucket compared to what Musk and Trump have in store! And let us not forget that Musk is the man who recently gave the Nazi salute twice to Trump supporters in Washington DC, and he got a roar of approval for it.
Western Europe
While I write this, we hear that the AFD in Germany is making headway and that in Great Britain the Reform UK party is coming in number two in the opinion polls. Both of these parties are the equivalent of today’s Republican Party here in the United States. Now my point, my message to comrades and workers in Ukraine, Syria, and elsewhere is this: if you see capitalism moving in this direction in the United States, Germany and Britain, what chance do you think capitalism has in a country like Ukraine or Syria?
Ukraine
In Ukraine, for example, we see the ongoing devastation from the fascistic Putin‘s invasion, which has been going on for nearly 3 years now. From what I understand, popular opposition to that invasion is hampered by the pro corporate policies of Zelensky. Whatever happens with this war, whatever the short term or medium term outcome is, what chances are there for capitalism to develop a society that is run on the interest of the great majority when we see the exact opposite and the long-term established capitalist countries such as the United States, Germany, and Great Britain? What are the chances of eliminating corruption in Ukraine when we see the most corrupt government in its history take power in the US? Doesn’t the fight against Putin‘s invasion have to be connected to the struggle of workers in Ukraine

top: Ukrainian soldiers fighting the Russian invasion. bottom: Syrians celebrating the overthrow of Assad
with that of workers throughout the region and throughout the world?
Syria
And then look at Syria. There, after a struggle of 14 long years, what has probably been this century’s most vicious dictatorship was finally overthrown, similar to how similar the other countries that underwent the Arab spring. But in all those other countries after those dictatorships were overthrown how much has really changed? You see, for example, the al Sisi dictatorship in Egypt. And isn’t it true that the liberal economic policies of all of those dictator ships were really the underlying reason for the hour of spring in the first place? After all, it was those policies that drove many millions of small farmers off of their land, created mass unemployment amongst the youth, drove millions of small businesses out of business, and eliminated price supports for basic food stuff like cooking oil. What are the chances that the pro capitalisy HTS government will reverse those policies? And another question: any movement, and any government, must make international alliances. As a pro capitalist movement, and now a capitalist government, that means that HTS will be seeking alliances with other capitalist governments around the world. In fact, indications are that they are perfectly open to aligning themselves with the United States government. Now, of course, the overthrow of that horrific Assad dictatorship was a great step forward, but the question is, will it now open the door for a workers movement in Syria and elsewhere, including in Iran, that links up workers in the region and beyond and connects the demand for democracy with the economic issues. And a movement like that in today’s world must necessarily open up the question of socialism, real genuine socialism with workers democracy.
That is the message from here in MAGA land.
