Ronna McDaniel with Trump. NBC’s hiring of her is causing a kerfluffle because she didn’t break with Trump after January 6.

NBC’s hiring of recently fired chair of the Republican Party, Ronna McDaniel, is causing a bit of a kerfluffle. But the scandal is that McDaniel loyally served Trump after he attempted to overturn an election by his January 6 riot and after he continued to justify that riot. We see in that scandal how the capitalist establishment uses its power and money to keep its minions in line.

Then Special Counsel to the President, Hope Hicks, was clear about that on January 6, 2021. On that fateful day, she sent a series of text message rants. Yahoo reported: ‘As the riot at the Capitol unfolded on January 6, 2021, Hicks sent a series of texts lamenting the ramifications the riot may have on their career prospects. “In one day he ended every future opportunity that doesn’t include speaking engagement at the local proud boys chapter,” she wrote in a text that appeared to reference Trump, adding: “And all of us that didn’t have jobs lined up will be perpetually unemployed.” Like the rest of the capitalist careerists, Hicks was not worried about any democratic rights that people might lose; she was concerned about her future job prospects.

However, Hicks underestimated the degree of depravity at the top of the US capitalist food chain as seen in Exhibit #1: NBC’s recent hiring of the professional liar and Trump ass kisser Ronna McDaniel. Trump just recently removed McDaniel from her role as chair of the Republican Party, apparently because he could not trust her to adequately raid the Party’s kitty to pay his personal legal bills. But not to worry. McDaniel has landed on her feet in what is surely a well-paid job with NBC. There, she will be allowed to whitewash her recent past. In fact, she’s already saying that she had to “take one for the team”. I suppose top Hitler aides could have said the same thing.

And if you think it’s way over the top to compare McDaniel to members of the Nazi regime, think again. I have no doubt that she’d be perfectly willing to fill in as an aide to a similar regime here as long as she believed it was a good career move.

Alyssa Farah Griffin also served the Liar and Rioter in Chief Trump. She also landed on her feet.

NBC has simply taken a step further down the trail blazed by CNN, who has as a prominent commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin. This very model of honesty and human decency got her professional start working for the far right and racist WorldNetDaily. Among other things, that outlet peddled the racist trope that Obama was not born in America. Griffin then upgraded her career by going to work for another “news” outlet that was a model of truth and honesty: Fox’s Laura Ingraham Show. At various times Griffin has worked as press secretary for then far right congressman and future Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, for the racist Republican “Freedom” Caucus and for another professional liar and thug, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan. From there, it was onward and upward for Griffin, who then got a gig with the Trump administration as a special counselor to the president. From that lofty perch, she helped the Liar in Chief peddle one lie after another.

Now Griffin has landed on her feet as a serious commentator on the news for CNN. There, she is respectfully called upon to add her words of wisdom on current political developments. And if you think the US capitalist media is bad, take a look at the Putin-controlled Russian media! Here, careerists and all sorts of opportunists are enabled to give their serious words of wisdom and basic bacts and events are left out. But in general, the capitalist media doesn’t outright lie because it’s too easy to get caught out by their competitors, or get sued. Just ask Fox about the latter. But it is sickening to see the likes of Farah Griffin and now McDaniel speaking as if they were serious commentators.

I don’t want to end on a totally cynical note. There are capitalist journalists who, even within their pro-capitalist limitations, strive to be honest and present something of value. Mehdi Hasan is one example, including the fact that he was recently fired from MSNBC. Jim Ayman on that same channel often produces important material. Clarissa Ward shows courage and some honesty in her war reporting for CNN. Yes, they all leave things out. That’s in the very nature of the capitalist media. But they also produce material of value. One step further down that road is Terrell Jermaine Starr. He is an independent journalist reporting in Ukraine from a black man’s point of view. Well worth following on Twitter.
