Sunday 6th September at 7 p.m. British Summer Time/ 1pm US Central Time
Speaker: Rob Wallace
Rob Wallace is an evolutionary epidemiologist with the Agro-ecology and Rural Economics Research Corps, author of “Big Farms Make Big Flu”, and co-author of “Clear-Cutting Disease Control: Capital-Led Deforestation, Public Health austerity, and Vector-Borne Infection”. He has consulted with the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
He will be speaking on:
•    The role of factory farming and habitat destruction in this and other pandemics
•    The latest scientific research on the origins of this novel coronavirus, including whether it originated in a lab or in the wild.
A clear understanding of this science is crucial for the working class and for socialists in order to propose a real solution and to combat the conspiracy theorists and science denialists.

Oaklandsocialist adds:
Just last weekend we saw nearly 40,000 science denialists and conspiracy theorists mobilize in Berlin. This dangerous trend is spreading globally. Among other things, it is opening the way for increased influence of the far right, such as the AfD in Germany and similar racists and nationalists here in the US. Part of the basis for this spread is the suspicion that “there is something they are not telling us.” In fact, that is true, but what “they” aren’t telling us is how the rise of Covid 19 and other zoonotic diseases is caused by capitalism’s destruction of natural habitat and factory farming. That gives an added importance to meetings like this upcoming one – not only to help clarify the basis for new zoonotic diseases, but also to combat these dangerous political tendencies.
