Here’s your “Pappy Manhattan”, a $120 cocktail featuring a pour of 15-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon at the Palm Court in the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
Just filing your taxes? Expecting a refund… maybe $500 or even $1000 or even double that? Planning on paying some bills with it? Or else… why don’t you spend it on a dinner for two at $500 a pop?
That’s what our friends on Wall Street are doing… at Midtown’s Bryant Park Grill in New York. As the Wall St. Journal reports: “The event at Midtown’s Bryant Park Grill will feature pourings of Van Winkle, the cult-favorite bourbon line that is produced in limited quantities by Kentucky’s Buffalo Trace Distillery in partnership with the Van Winkle family. The list price of the most exclusive Van Winkle offerings, such as the 23-year-old Pappy Van Winkle, can run $270 a bottle. Some retailers, however, mark up the price to as high as $3,000 a bottle.”As the corporate exec behind the idea says: “I figured people are saying, ‘I’m getting a refund, so let’s blow some bucks.’ ”
So, if your income is up there in the high six figure range, and you can blow $120 on a cocktail, go on: eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow… Well, tomorrow you will rip off some of the rest of us some more. Meanwhile, Trump is dropping the “Mother Of All Bombs” on people in Afghanistan. But don’t worry. Drink up.
