Behind the Scenes at Oakland City Council

The Oakland City Council meeting of Tuesday, June 2, considered a controversial measure to give a large tract of valuable land right next to Lake Merritt to a real estate speculator to build luxury housing on. The council wanted to be sure that as few people as possible could view the goings-on, so they closed the balcony sections. A few of us stood in the back of the main gallery, where we were told to move. It was a “fire hazard” you see. We refused. Here’s the video record.
